Foreshadowing is a literary technique used by many different authors to provide clues for the reader to be able to predict what might occur later on in the story. In other words, it is a literary device in which an author drops hints about the plot and what may come in the near future or, in other words, the plot developments to come later in the story.
in the book clear light of day it is easy to say the the entire first chapter is like a foreshadow( after you have read the entire book) because when we are first introduced to the characters they are must older and have lived there life's how they saw fit and in the second chapter we are again introduced to the characters as there younger self's and we see why they now act as they do because we can see they childhood played out in front of us.
it can also be said if you thing about it properly that chapter 2 and maybe some beyond that was simlar to a the litery device flashback which is an interjected scene that takes the narrative back in time from the current point the story has reached. Flashbacks are often used to recount events that happened prior to the story’s primary sequence of events or to fill in crucial backstory. i said this because as we are introduced to the charaters at frist ther are many question as to why they are how they are and why they behave how they do however as the book progress we see why. thus chapter 2 and some beyond can be called a flashback
